Halloween season is here and with it comes one of the most popular autumn activities, you guessed it, carving pumpkins! However, an estimated 22.2 million pumpkins will go to waste this year*. So how can we use those leftover pumpkins when the spooky season is over?
Jack and Beyond found that the phrase ‘Halloween Pets’ had an audience outreach of 74.4 billion views on TikTok. So, it’s official; we love including our pets in the spooky season! This led to them discovering the most viral ways we can help reduce our pumpkin waste this Halloween by turning pumpkin scraps into tasty treats for your pooch.

Jack and Beyond have analysed trending searches on TikTok to discover the most viral recipes for using pumpkins this Halloween. As well as conducting searches on reputable websites such as WebMD and RSPCA to investigate the health benefits of eating pumpkin for dogs.

Recipes
With 10.3 million views and 1.2m likes on TikTok, the most popular recipe was a Pupkin spiced latte that uses pureed pumpkin, oat milk, whipped cream, and a small amount of cinnamon.
With 7.8 million views and 1.1 million likes on Tiktok, the second most popular recipe was for Pumpkin dog pie; this uses wheat flour, delicious unsweetened apple sauce, water, a small amount of gelatin, and pureed pumpkin. But to top it off don’t forget the whipped cream!
The third most popular recipe on TikTok was glazed pumpkin dog doughnuts, with 749.5K views and 135.3K likes. The recipe uses pureed pumpkin, non-artificial sweetened peanut butter, a small amount of coconut oil, an egg, a drizzle of honey, baking soda and whole wheat flour.
Coming in at number four with 744K views and 61.6K likes was pumpkin dog biscuits, made with pureed pumpkin, oat flour, a small amount of cinnamon, eggs and a small amount of honey.
The last recipe on the list is pumpkin dog cakes, with 493.8k views and 65.8k likes. It is made with pureed pumpkin, unsweetened applesauce, all-natural peanut butter, non-fat plain greek yoghurt, eggs, wholewheat flour and baking soda. Methodology:
Jackandbeyond wanted to discover ways we can reduce our pumpkin wastage this autumn.
To do so, they utilised the social media platform TikTok, to identify the most trending pumpkin recipes for dogs. Relevant phrases such as ‘Pumpkin Dog Bone’, ‘Pumpkin Dog Cake’ and ‘Pumpkin Dog Biscuits-’ alongside 23 other terms were used to source data. The seed list was collated from multiple reputable sources, including Buzzfeed, Glamour, Hubbub, RSPCA and WebMD.
All recipes were ranked based on the number of search results that appeared - from highest to lowest - to reveal the top methods for reusing pumpkin waste to make dog treats.
