Gender Equality in the Workplace

Out of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, I decided to highlight goal five surrounding Gender Equality as there is still a strong use of inequality in the workplace between genders that often go unrecognised. This social video would be targeting a wide age range specifically between 18–35-year-olds to inform them of what could happen in the workplace.

I began this social video through researching ideas and how others have created awareness of such issues included in the sustainable goals, from this I made a plan of what exactly I will be doing and how I would be doing especially due to the COVID-19 restrictions I was put under. I used my two nieces and two nephews to create the video I wanted, but as I was not at home with them and was under strict rules, I gave my eldest niece a script and strong instructions to follow to be able to get the best possible footage and outcome.

I gave all the children different locations and scenarios which correlated to their ages which made the video more interesting to the public eye. However, I did not use all of their responses and I did remove some footage to be able to commit to the expected duration of a minute and a half. For the interview, I used very broad questions and included statistics to get the best answers from Nathalie, a lawyer with expertise in gender equality. The interview was around half an hour which was perfect as it gave me a wide range of soundbites to choose from, giving more variety. I also chose to add subtitles to my video for those who prefer to read videos like these instead of playing it out loud around others and it also could impact the audience more as sometimes seeing things in writing can be better than just hearing it. The background music I used pulled the video together and I think it has helped portray the issue being discussed to the audience.
