Live Football Tickets can reveal that Spain’s Camp Nou stadium is the most Instagrammable World Cup stadium, totalling 2,103,926 hashtags on Instagram to date. Home to La Liga club FC Barcelona, the stadium has the largest capacity in both Spain and the whole of Europe, whilst also placing it as the third largest football stadium in the world.

Ranking in second place for the most Instagrammable stadium is the United Kingdom’s Old Trafford stadium in Manchester with 1,373,317 total hashtags on Instagram. This is the second-largest football stadium in the whole of the UK, and during the 1966 World Cup, the capacity exceeded 60,000.

Spain’s Santiago Bernabeu is the third most picturesque World Cup stadium obtaining 741,094 hashtags. Home to the famous football team Real Madrid, it is the second-largest stadium in Spain and has recently undergone a redevelopment to allow the pitch to be used in all weather conditions and reduce noise pollution.

Placing as the fourth most instagrammable World Cup stadium, California’s Rose Bowl stadium raked in a total of 554,961 Instagram hashtags. Originally opened in 1922, the stadium is considered a national historic landmark and was first built in the shape of a horseshoe, but over the years it has been developed to create the full ‘bowl’ shape.

Wembley Stadium in London, is the fifth most photographed stadium in the world securing 397,589 hashtags overall. Regularly used as the home ground for England’s national football team, it is also the largest stadium in the UK and second-largest in Europe.

Despite the low number of hashtags for their stadiums, the 2023 Women’s World Cup is being hosted between Australia and New Zealand and has ignited excitement for women across the globe. Previous to the 24 teams, there will now be a total of 32 teams competing, replicating the men's tournament format since 1998.

Methodology:

  1. LiveFootballTickets wanted to find out the most Instagrammed World Cup Stadiums of all time, ahead of the Women’s World Cup in July.

  2. A seed list of stadiums that were used in every World Cup tournament was collated through reputable sources such as Fifa, Stadiumguide and Wikipedia.

  3. For each stadium on the list, relevant Instagram hashtags were identified e.g. #campnou, #wembleystadium and #parcdeprinces etc.

  4. The counts of each individual hashtag were added up to give an overall Instagram ‘# count.’ A total number of 223 stadiums were analysed.

  5. The stadiums were then sorted from highest to lowest to discover the top 10 most Instagrammable world cup stadiums.

  6. Data was collected on 13/06/2023, and is accurate as of then.
